How to Achieve Happiness

As we are more or less social animals, it is increasingly difficult to achieve happiness, because of a distinct tendency towards depersonalization. For instance - 15 years ago, you wouldn't be reading this web-site, but would probably be talking on the phone, which is much more personal. So 'How to be happy' is often very circumstantial, but there are some general rules, which we could apply for our New World.

In the emotional economy of our every-day interactions the currency that we have is called 'mutual understanding'. Naturally the more we have of this currency, the more we can 'buy' with it. How do we get this currency? By having a genuine interest in other people. Let me repeat this: a genuine interest in other people. The rule of reciprocity would kick in and you would find it much easier to ask and to receive. The old 'give & take' always started with the 'give'. Here are a few more tips for social happiness:

1. Be impeccable with your word. This is from Don Miguel Ruiz's book and it boils down to: Say only what you mean.
2. Know yourself and manage your heart. Emotions are powerful tools for getting what we want, but could also hurt others and us.
3. Don't make assumptions or take anything for granted. Don't take negative behaviors personally. Create the social setting most conducive to your happiness.

More tips:

1. For Physical happiness - go to the gym; sleep; get the sunshine vitamin (D); make love (not just sex). Lay-off the smokes and the alcohol.
2. For Intellectual happiness - read books on topics that fascinate you, talk about them with your friends, and then write the authors.
3. For spiritual happiness - Stop talking, go to work, do a good deed every day and do not tell anybody about it.

Learn to work with God whomever you conceive him/her to be. Let the Universe work its miraculous way of balancing things out. When you invest good deeds, positive emotions and honest effort this is what you will get in return. For more free professional and career advice visit my site.
